Stu Ungar

The basic reason why Stu changed from gin to poker was that Stu was a little too good at it. So skilled in fact, that no player was able stand up to him. Even the so-called professionals who were supposed to be the best at gin were blow away when they played with Stu Ungar. One of these gin rummy masters was Harry Stein, called, "Yonkie". Mr. Stein was handed such a debilitating beating at the hands of stu that he apparently quit playing it as a pro and never showed up at a gin tournament.

Accordingly, with a distinction like that it was not long before gamblers became afraid of wagering against Stu Ungar. He could find no games and in his desperation he started doing something no one had performed before. Stu began offering beginning handicaps to likely opponents with the wish that they may compete opposed to him if they believed they held an advantage. He at will began from a bad position and one account has it that he even played against a consistent bad egg. Mid game, he get a few words of wisdom that the bad egg was at it one more time but Stu Ungar stated that he deduced of the dishonestly and he would still acquire a win, which of course, he did.

The same trend followed Stu Ungar to Las Vegas. He won so often that the casinos started requesting that he not to compete in their poker rooms anymore. The reasoning behind it was that other poker room visitors would not sit at the table if he were seated.

Stu Ungar is recalled more for his abilities in texas holdem poker but he always maintained that he was far better at gin rummy.

He beat Doyle Brunson in the WSOP in Nineteen Eighty to become the youngest world camp. Because of his features that made him appear far younger than he really was, he got the nickname, "The Kid".
