Holdem Poker Legends
Stu Ungar is thought to be by many to the very best NL Texas holdem Poker player ever.
The three time World Poker Champion was born in New York in 1953 and began betting poker prior to becomming a teenager.
The young bettor began betting gin and at the age of ten had won his first gin rummy tournament, while on vacation with his parents. By the time he turned 14 the little poker maestro had turned pro and dropped out of school.
In ‘54 Stu entered the record books by succeeding 10 grand in a gin rummy tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still stands in New York today.
The quick talking wiz kid has been likened, in poker terms, to sporting greats like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Stu had a real skill for playing poker except regardless of his successes in Texas hold em poker, he preferred playing gin.
Stu once said that there might a number of day be a far better NL Texas hold’em player than him but he could not see how anyone could ever be a better gin player.
In 1980 Stu Ungar was put on the world map as one of the ideal Hold’em Poker players in the earth when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the very first time. Extraordinarily it was the 1st time he had entered the tournament.
The subsequent year he put aside any thoughts that it had been a fluke, by successfully protecting his crown. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by succeeding his 3rd World poker championship.
But this poker legend also fought with drug abuse and a year right after succeeding his third title Stu Ungar died in his hotel room. According to medical professionals, he had died from cardiac arrest which was triggered by his lifestyle.
Stu Ungar had began with absolutely nothing except his skill and talent for the game which made this poker great a millionaire a lot of times over.
