The History of Poker Chips
Gaming chips have been made from a huge range of materials in an almost endless variety of variations since the advent of betting and the need to keep an eye on winnings. The most familiar components employed at this time in the creation of current poker chips are plastic, clay composite, and acrylic composite. Clay chips, the primary of the bunch, have been manufactured in America since the late 1800s.
Back in the 1800s, poker players seemed to use any small valuable object imaginable. Early poker enthusiasts sometimes employed jagged gold pieces along with chips – primarily manufactured of wood and clay. By the 1900s, poker chip designs started to enjoy a bigger prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips gave way to chips with engraved slits to hold them neatly arranged with each other.
There is little doubt that poker has expanded constantly in appeal since its origin in the 19th century. With the explosive growth of online gaming and specialty TV shows, public interest in poker has feed the fire a lot faster than ever before. Many people are initially introduced to poker by TV showssuch as Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or "Poker After Dark," and many will play their initial hands on the web. Despite net poker’s rise, nothing competes with the feeling of mixing weighty poker chips in your hand, tossing chips into the center of a poker table, or creating high pilesstacks of chips after showing a winning hand.
