Online High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best players around the world. While betting on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
