NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
