Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve final table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While participating in web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
