NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
