NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
